This weekend I got to spend a lot of time crafting with Grace due to a huge ice storm we had here in Texas. I also got to shoot some amazing images I will share with you soon. In the meantime, you might enjoy trying your hand at this simple and beautiful DIY project.
I am completely in love with milk glass and vintage colors. Since ornaments like these aren’t easy to find we decided to create our own. The possibilities are endless as you can choose any color that suits you. I even made gray ornaments for my bedroom ( I am a bit gray obsessed lately.) We used two different kinds of glass ornaments. One set has an iridescent finish, while the other is just plain glass that creates a more authentic “milk glass” finish.
Here is a list of what you will need for this project-
- acrylic paint
- glass craft ornaments (found at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s)
- paper plates & damp paper towels (for the mess)
This craft is very simple, but could be very messy for younger children. These are GLASS ornaments, so please supervise the kiddos with this one.
Here are your step by step directions-
- Remove all the ornament tops and put them aside.
- Have the ornament insert tray empty and ready to use as a holder for your drying ornaments.
- Squeeze a small amount of paint into your ornament.
- Hold your finger or damp paper towel over opening and shake until your ornament is completely coated. Add more paint if needed. (See video below to watch Grace do this step)
- Place painted ornament in tray with opening facing down. Allow 24 hours to dry -or if you are impatient, try a hair dryer ;)
- Using a damp paper towel, clean your dry ornament of any excess paint from the opening or accidental fingerprints.
- Place top on ornament and they are ready to go.
- a roll of tulle
- a styrofoam wreath
- pinking sheers
How to make tulle wreath-
- wrap tulle around the wreath and tie a knot
- cut the your desired length
- repeat and scrunch tulle together until wreath is full
- add ornaments or decorations
